Thanks for your answer. I have no doubts that it works for you as well as for many others. The point is that in my case and in some others cases LOGO V8 does not work and we are trying to find out why.

I did tried with and without a USB adapter and I had no difference. I always get the same error message even when the message text does not make much sense.

You still have this problem?
What does your Windows Device settings look like?
Are there any non-siemens software installed that makes use of virtual serial ports?

...maybe you should contact Siemens Support if the user's forum is of no help.

I tried installing the software in my notebook and also I tested it on a desktop and had the same error.

When I used the desktop, I was using a real serial port, so there was no virtual port driver involved in that case.

Also the error message "Unable to access the IP Address COM2" (in the case of the desktop computer, in my notebook ti was COM5 or COM6 depending on what USB port I used) sounds very strange. It makes no sense IP address COMx.

I don't know how/where to contact Siemens support other than here.

 I cannot help resolve your problem..but let me show you how to come in contact with Siemens Support:

Look to the left side under your name. Click on the "my request" shortcut - this is highlighted in the above image. I encourage you to take it further and (please) let us know the result.

I did made the installation with the cable unplugged. Also, when I tried with the desktop computer there was no USB port involved, I used in that case a real RS232 port and the result was the same.

I did posted the request to Siemens tech support and I received today an email with instructions in an attached PDF file. The PDF has the instructions from the manual about how to connect a LOGO! via ethernet. I guess the guys from tech support didn't really read my request because I never talked about ethernet, in fact the PLCs are the old ones that have no ethernet port.

Anyway thanks a lot for your help.

Unfortunately that is the one critique I have with the support guys.
Phase 1 is to show you stuff in the documentation.
Maybe many give up at this stage or is actually helped.

Just calmly thank your {handler} for his time and efforts. Next insist politely that he read your question. Now also add pictures to show your problems. There is a good chance that if you do it well Phase 2 will start the ball rolling.

I think I failed on my polite attitude and let my handler see my frustration. I wasn't able to hide it.
