We have other projects in which we use the free telegram, and then add the encoders actual position (r842). But I am not able to select the free telegram in the HW Config of Step7.

Mind you: I am talking about a project in Step7, NOT in TIA Portal.

I can select the free telegram in Starter, but I am not able to transfer this configuration to the HW Config of Step7.
Can anyone help em with that?

You will need Simatic Manager Step 7 v 5.x to configure Step 7 hardware. STARTER is compatible for drives only & not for S7 PLC. 

What can I do if I am not able to select the free telegram in Step7 HW?
One of my collegues can do this, but I cannot. I have the same Step7 version and Sp installed. Does this have to do with the type of CU or drive?

Which is CU? Version?

CU: CU250S-2 DP Vector

To best of my knowledge, free telegram i.e. input 17 words & output 12 words is available for CU250S- PN module & not to DP module.

There is no "user-defined" entry in the drop down menu in dp slave properties - configuration - overview. 

You just have to define your own telegram in dp slave properties - configuration - details, and it will appear as "user-defined"  when you go back to overview.

I'm allways talking about hardware config in step 7.
