If the pulses are only counted (depending on the encoder), errors can occur when a limit value is queried. If A/B encoders are used, errors can occur when querying the direction, because this also occurs within the cycle.

Provided the application does not require excessive precision. The project proposed in the link uses a 100 pulse per revolution encoder at a speed of 17 revolutions per minute.
