Yes, I think that could be the window for PDM connection COM settings.  Try opening the COM port or right clicking to see what comes up.  (it was 10 years ago that I last used PDM, so memories are not very clear).

The COM port your configure PDM with is the PC's hardware or virtual COM port for its RS-232 port.  

Com port 1 with all matching bauds and parities etc...... i have also tried the USB adaptor and it is the FTDI style. 

If you have a built-in hardware RS-232 port (I did not know that a PC could be purchased with such nowadays) then it could be on COM1

But if you tried a USB/RS-232 adapter and there was a hardware RS-232 port on COM1, then the USB-232 adapter would NOT install on Virtual COM port 1, because it would conflict with the hardware COM port 1.  

How are you determining the RS-232 port on the PC?
