lato11 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hi folks, Sorry if this is on the wrong board - I'm new. Problem ; ptprorun.exe is generating errors and will be closed by windows, etc...... Do I need and new ptprorun.exe , and where can I download? I have searched.... History; machine was installed in 2002 and happens to be a "Rolls" for rolling sheets of metal. It got plenty of abuse - immediate turning off of computer, not the shutdown routine. The ptprorun Folder/Directory is roughly 1.4 MB's and in the C:\Siemens Directory ptprorun.exe (dated 2002) within it, is about 168 kbs (on disk; 172) Product version; V6.0.0.29 Computer; Windows 2000 Other info. I haven't a clue what this does, and from reading, assume that its a simulator of some sort. The "operators" are no help, and tell me that they launch an older version, which doesn't show measurements on the panel (not entirely meeting their needs). I don't know why the older version was never uninstalled, and neither does anyone else. Howver, replacing the ptprorun.exe with a known uncorrupted copy, may be a place to start??? Thanks. Update After significant searching on the internet, a lot of the problems seem to relate to Windows Update interference. This does not apply in our case, as the computer/panel are not connected to the web, so no Windows updating can begin. In other words, if this machine worked yesterday, then it should work today, when one excludes MicroSoft interference/negative help.

lato11 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Thanks Sandman, The personnel who were trained on this machine (rolls), have left, so the current operators don't understand the setup. I do accept that ptprorun.exe error could be caused by almost anything, including windows itself (which is why I thought that replacing it, might be a quick fix, incase it is corrupt). I renamed that exe, and the program won't start without it, so it must be necessary. It is a windows 2000 computer inside a box with additional control levers for other functions ( is this what ye refer to as a Panel /control Panel? Would it be ridiculous to swap the exe for a known good copy, if I could find one? Thanks

In this case the wright way will be a new installation of ProTool. Then you have got a clean installation (if you just swap files, nobody knows whats happens after this).

lato11 Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Thanks Sandman, Guy in the Office say he has two C.D.'s ; Restore Drivers and Utilities I will check it out tomorrow to see if either of those contains an actual installation. If one does, then is it necessary to clean the registry, as mentioned in other threads?
