I am working on setting up Rate control for our Scalance XC216 switches to add prevention of network storm on our Profinet network.

The switch used is a Scalance XC216, with FW V04.01.00, in a ring network. We also use two XC208 switches, but I do not believe this is relevant for the symptoms I am experiencing. The ring consists of 3 XC216 swithces, and 2 XC208 switches.

I have set up ingress and egress limitation of all ports (except Ring Ports), and enabled this for all cast options. Regardless, we fail every time we try to storm the network, and the system goes extremely slowly due to overload of the network. The storm test is performed by storming one port on the beforementioned switch (not the ring ports). I have tried different values on the rate control, but the result is always the same, network storm.

I can also mention that we also experience network storm when the ingress/egress rate is set too low during normal operation, which I expect is below the actual data traffic.

To me it seems like the Rate control induces the storm instead of preventing it. I would expect the switch to limit that specific port to the limitation which are setup, and prevent it from overflooding the rest of the network.

Is there anyone who has experience with setting up this parameter? My knowledge of these switches are limited, and any helpful tips would be highly appreciated.
