Hi,

We are using WinCC flexible Advanced 2008 SP5 (Version V01.05.00_01.13.00.03) both on the PG and on a standard PC on the production line. After migrating projects from the previous version, it is no longer possible to add the Symbol Library to the project.

The issue occurs only on the PC. When opening a screen that contains symbols, the following message appears:

“Failed to create ActiveX Control Symbol Library (_2, _3). Control is not installed.”

I have already uninstalled the previous version of WinCC and installed the new one, but the problem persists.

Also an “Internal Error ( detail: Cannot link VIEW_OCX (linking exception)” is shown in the Compiler Output.

How can I resolve this issue?

I suspect your original WinCC flexible project contains custom controls (OCX).

When migrating a flexible project, OCX controls are not migrated.

To use them in the migrated project, you need the source code of the OCX control.

As described in the link above, it's necessary to register it in Windows so it can be used in the flexible project.

Do you still have the old system where the original flexible project worked correctly?

If so, you can check there whether custom controls were used.
