Is there something like a Universal Slave

Could you please explain what you mean by a Universal Slave? Siemens, and others like Wago, offer expandable I/O slave interfaces, that can be adapted to the requirements of a particular project. Or many CPUs can be used as Profibus-DP slaves, and the exchanges between master and slave can be whatever sizeis needed for a specific process. But in every case, the dimensions (number of input registers, number of output registers)of the exchange table must be configured in the master, and any time this is changed, the CPU must be updated (download of the hardware configuration while in Stop mode).
