Without Display, S7-1200 is the first SIMATIC PLC that there is no RUN / STOP key (except the LOGO! without Display). I see, here in the forum, many comparisons with S7-200 / S7-300 but until now no one about the RUN / STOP key. What they think about it?

(Unfortunately I haven’t got 1200 yet in my hand). Well I think there should be a run/stop switch. I mean there are advantages and disadvantages of having a key switch. The main advantage is if you done some thin wrong you can make PLC stop immediately with out cutting power or stop from the software. And main disadvantage is unauthorized activation of switch (if the switch is a key switch like good old s7 300 it won’t be a problem). Also as Tomy Master mentioned the TREM mode is also missing. So my personal feeling is it is better to have a run/stop switch than no run/stop switch. (This is my idea only may be siemens having better ideas with out run/stop switch) Best regards.

Iam new here, i have bought S1200 startspack with KTP-400 display, with extra cpu 1214c. I am installing it in my new house. beste regards Spiky1214c

Aminadra Posts: 27 Rating: (4)	Hi, even though ther is no RUN/STOP switch in the S7-1200, you can link an external switch,(DI or HMI) to the STP block in the PLC. this will turn off the CPU. However i am unable to find anything that can run it back again. Regards

Aminadra Posts: 27 Rating: (4)	Hello, below is the way to add the stop fctthe CPU on the s71200: Under the extended instructions menu, program control,add the STP block to the program Add an input switch (ex I0.0) to enable the block. once the input is set to "1" the CPU stops and all the outputs are assigned to "0" i will add a sample code later since i cannot upload a file from work Regards Aminadra

If the HMI gives a comand to be interpreted by the user program on PLC, you can STOP, however once in STOP mode, the user program runs no more, and couldn't take any action (in this case put the CPU goes to RUN).

Zunar Posts: 60 Rating: (6)	One can always insert an empty memory card into the S7-1200, that will take it to stop. This should be used as a last resort though, nothing can really replace the wiring and configuration of an emergency stop button.

Run/Stop switch was one of the issues. I have their promise that lots of issues will be fixed with the new version of Step-7 Basic, but I don't know what will happed with that switch. Hope we will get new hardware release with this switch. I believe that it will be implemented some day. By the way, don't use memory cards to stop CPU. The big problem in this case that this card's slot is exactly the same as SD card slot. So if you accidenty plug just usual SD card (not Siemens) then PLC will go to stop forever. You can power cycle the CPU, but it is still in STOP mode. The only way is to connect your PG and push "RUN" button in software. So be careful !
