Automation License Manager V6.2.3.0 running on Windows 11 Professional 24H2 is not functioning as expected. Sporadically the Automation License Manager (ALM) refuses to transfer a license key from/to a USB license disk.

It does seem as though an offline license transfer can be done successfully. But I have done this procedure only once when ALM is giving a communication error.

Previously I had Windows 11 Professional 24H2, US English edition installed. But the PC was already populated with many applications. Then ALM started giving problems.

I am aware that the development team at Siemens is actively working on ALM to work smoothly inside Windows 11 24H2. Perhaps other forum members have some experiences that might be helpful to the community and to the developers. Please use this discussion to voice your experiences.

I have a customer with the same problem, the remedy described in the F.A.Q. didn't help.

Perhaps you can remove the specific Windows update (KB5058411), this was not an option for my customer.

In my case the newly installed Windows 11 did not have that KB5058411 update embedded, as far as I know. 

Ignoring driver updates, the following Windows updates were loaded on top of the installed ISO:

I have the same issue, The Support time seems to be completely in the dark about it, from first brushing me off to actually telling me I have to wait for a ALM update to be released.

 I tried to upgrade a safety license and i get constantly communication errors and inactive licenses, i did everything i have been told installed additional updates reinstalled ALM maybe 10 times by now and nothing seems to fix it, the bothering part is I'm dead in the water can't complete my project without that license upgrade and Siemens does not care.

You have bumped into the “big company” problem. There are several teams involved to provide support for Siemens A&D. Not everyone is updated. Though they should be -- this ALM issue is now a pandemic. The development team is busy on finding a solution, but there is no indication of the time scales. ..or so I was informed.

The trial license should help you out for a few days, unless you have used that already.

For my case the offline transfer has been possible. That could work for you too, if your ALM service keeps running. In my case the ALM service stopped when ALM tries to read from a disk. 

Then there is the possibility of transferring a license via the internet / network. That seemed to have worked for me too – but I have not done extensive testing.

The ultimate fallback is to use another PC. Again the license can be taken off your original PC by use of the offline transfer method.

The final possibility – sweet talk your way forcefully into getting access to the cloud service. Perhaps Siemens will have some extra motivation if they have customers using services for free while they work on the ALM issues.

I have installed the alm 6.2 also today,  it is also not working. 

They do not inform you about the issues when they sell you the software. 

It is to bad that they claim to be such a great partner for your industrial automation projects,  charge a ridiculous amount of money for licenses, but dont mind your unable to finish your production projects.

No supplier is perfect. I bet your company has had issues come up with you product too.

It has been widely publicised how much trouble Windows 11 24H2 has caused. The gamer community was severely effected. Ironic since features were put in place to boost performance for game play. The consensus is that Microsoft has put in many changes. Perhaps Microsoft does this on purpose to keep companies like Siemens dependant on them.

ALM 6.2.0.3 was an answer to changes in Windows 11 24H2. It did work initially. But Microsoft did some update which again broke the ALM functionality. The practices of Microsoft is the root cause to this situation.

Siemens can turn around and say their specifications does not include Windows 11 24H2. Yet they are actively looking into the problems. We should in fact be running our PCs on long term OS versions.

I recommend people set the group policy in Windows to keep the PC on Windows 11 23H2.
