I have heat pump with POL698.80, POL945.0.

TCP is used by external router.

A1, B1 i used to control heat pump devices and extract data from power meter.

A2 an B2 slots are not connected.

I want to connect controller over modbus to Home Assistant to collect information data.

How I can start?

for first you need to know what device is ask for data and what device will share data, Client and Server. Then you can set in your code blocks MB_CLIENT or MB_SERVER due your expected functionality of your PLC. You can expect TCP protocol here and is recomemnded read help for expected block, cfg isn't easy and some experience and Modbus protocol knowledge is required.

Simple connection doesn't work

This is more wrong expectation. To have connection established is first important thing for functionality. Generally as next step is to prepare code for communication task or use and configure communication blocks if are available.

Due to the fact that currently POL698.80 is used by heat pump the last thing that I want is to destroy anything.

It's configured and working. Vendor of the heat pump collecting the data from registers and exposing them through custom app but without any API.

That means everything is configured and working, I have the list of registers. My goal is to use what exists but not sure how and where to start.

Is there any way to check details of configuration like server, slave bit rate, which interface such things with some kind of sniffer?

looks like I don't see any S7 controllers included in your area so you ask for S7 Siemens solution? Generally, you can easy do tests and improve knowledge here: www.simplymodbus.ca where all is described perfectly about protocol. Next HW is depended to your actual expectations due connection type, serial or ETH/TCP.

No I'm not asking for anything extra beyond what I have.

On Climatix controller I discovered TCP HMI configuration.

Tools are under port 4242. I assume this is endpoint for modbus.

So far not lack to connect. IP responds but can't get any data.

Duris and I dabble in Modbus on the industrial side.  Neither Duris nor I have ever seen a POL698.80.

Your HVAC controller is handled differently by Siemens because it's an entirely separate division and it's an OEM product to boot.  I poked around and found a spec sheet for the POL698.80, but could not even find a manual for the controller other than mechanical installation (screw it to wall).   Nor is it clear what software is used to configure a POL698.80?   Do you know which software app programs this controller?

Please help us out here.

I'm using that to collect data such as power, production of electricity from solar, usage of water, alarm, cameras. Now I wanted to add heat pump to the system to track parameters and assign alarms to identify problems before service. One of the example is pressure in circuits.

Anyway Home assistant has modbus plugin where I can configure sensors that means I can pull data from modbus registers. Not sure if can program controller but edit writable registers I think so. What I need is to capture holding registers like temperatures, pressures, maybe some alarms.

About tools, In controller in IPc-onfig I found out configuration of all external services like web, ftp such things. One of them is Tool access with active port 4242. I tried to use simply modbus tcp client and was able to connect over TCP.
I was able to send request 00 01 00 00 00 06 01 03 00 3C 00 00 and received single response 09 00 00 01 4E 41 43 4B 00.
After decoding it looks like data package is wrong size or something different.

I tried RTU overt TCP transmision.

What is your inquiry 00 01 00 00 00 06 01 03 00 3C 00 00 supposed to mean, in English?

Do you have the separate Modbus module, POL 902?

Or are you using the internal Modbus?

I have a POL638 that I'd like to connect into Homebridge. The controller has 4242tcp and 80tcp ports open, 502tcp is filtered. I can read certain outputs through http at port 80, but I cannot control anything, such as toggling "Presence".

Do you have any findings?

I am also interested in this topic. Port 4242 is open but I don’t know if this is for modbus or what protocol it is designed to communicate with?  I am positive that you can get controller data through this port if we knew how to query it. OEM’s are using this port to access data, but I can’t find any publication of syntax!
