UltraVNC or TightVNC on PCS7 v9.0

Hello,

Is anyone using UltraVNC or TightVNC on their PCS7 installations? I see from the compatibility matrix, that the only tested vnc is, RealVNC.

If so, any issues?

The problem here can arise when accessing the OS (or ES) that has server services, such as a server OS or also a client OS that acts, for example, as a WebNavigator or WebUX server.

If you use a non-released remote access to access this type of OS, it is possible that you will "throw down" the server services that WinCC has on this computer, causing stability, communication problems, etc. It is also possible that it works without problems for years, but the fact is that it could not be guaranteed.

According to the FAQ with ID 78463889, the only application released to remotely access this type of OS PCs is RealVNC, so I would recommend using only this one.

With OS that do not have server services, such as a basic client OS, this problem does not exist so in principle any remote access can be used: RDP, UltraVNC, etc.

I certainly understand it is best to keep with the tested compatible software. RealVNC is tested to be compatible and should be the answer, when someone asks what vnc to use.

But, sometimes things are muddy. Like, in my neck of the woods, purchasing can be quick sometimes and take months to years at other times. I'm currently in a months to years scenario and purchasing licenses is in the works, but what do until then...

Since Ultra and Tight, and most other vnc software, all use the RFB protocol, I was wondering if there were any PCS7 users out there who stray from the official guidance, and use the open source options. Especially since many of these vnc software titles are compatible with each other. For example, uVNC can connect to a RealVNC server. Given they are all so similar, I would be willing to bet they would work fine, but was hoping to hear of any real world uses with PCS7.
