Hello Pratapks, The SET is not a risk assessment tool. It calculates the probability of failure per hour dangerous which tells an engineer whether their safety circuit/function is reliable and within the level of risk for a certain hazard. It is based on 62061 or 13849. The machine safety standards are changing in Europe and the machinery directive as well. The new machinery directivewill no longer allow the use of the EN954 [active Jan 1 2010] machine safety standard [eg Category b,1,2,3,4]. This standard has been replaced with EN ISO 13849 and EN62061 which are performance based standards. Instead of the common Categories [b,1,2,3,4] based mostly on architecture new levels of safety have been created, they are PLa,b,c,d,e or SIL1,2,3. The new standards require more knowledge as you must calculate the SIL or PL for a specific Safety Function. The SIL takes into account probability of failure and architecture of the devices/circuit for a specific safety function. Calculating the SIL and PL can be time consuming and not everyone knows how. Therefore Siemens has created the SET Safety Evaluation Tool to help calculate the SIL or PL of a certain safety function. It contains all the safety products from Siemens including all their pertinent data such as B10, PFHd,ProofTest, %dangerous failures, etc. If you would like to know more read the following brochures and 62061 application note. The SET also has a help file and predefined safety examples in the library. The library examples can be copied and pasted into your own project to speed up engineering further.
