How to connect WinCC advanced runtime (PC) to PLC?

JanJasek Advanced Member Joined: 9/28/2010 Last visit: 12/15/2025 Posts: 45 Rating: (8)	I have a laptop with -Win7 (32-bit, professional), -STEP 7 Professional and WinCC Advanced, both versions V11 SP2 Update 5 -and with common ethernet card. What do I need to use the laptop as host for WinCC runtime connected to PLC? The PLC I have is 315-2DP wtih CP343-1 Lean. I've created a test project with a test HMI screen and few tags connected via ethernet to the PLC and its tags. It compiles and works perfectly in simulation (PLC simulation and WinCC simulation). But when I download the PLC project to the real PLC and when I start runtime of the WinCC project, there is no connection between the PC runtime and the PLC. I cannot see the plc tag values - instead I see only hash symbols "########". The laptop and the CP343-1 are connected via common ethernet cable (< 1 m long). Step7 communication between the laptop nad CP343-1 works normally. So what can be wrong? Do I need some more software, something like "Simatic NET CD 2008"? I don't have a WinCC runtime licence in my laptop - but I guess that if this would be the problem I would see some licence warning message. Or does it work like this - no licence = no connection without warning? Any ideas? Thank you.

I can only select ETHERNET interface (or MPI/DP, no TCP/IP). And there is no "Set Automatically" checkbox. This connection was created automatically by TIA, when I connected HMI tags to PLC tags. (See the IP addresses are grayed, since it was created automatically from Device configuration.) I tried to delete this connection and to create the same manually, but it doesn't worked (it was unable to connect HMI tags to PLC tags). I'v tried to turn off windows firewall completelly. I'v tried to use my old XP laptop as runtime host. Nothing worked. Attachment HmiConnection1.jpg (4564 Downloads)

bbc91 Posts: 25 Rating: (2)	hello i found your thred while hoping to find a solution for my problem....my pc is communicating with the plc but i can;t manage to connect the wincc to the plc and see the results on the pc....could you please guide me through the ssteps i have a 317-2db and using 343-1 for the ethernet please i really need to solve this for a project thank you very much
