Encoder interface

ihui Posts: 17 Rating: (0)	Hallo, I have a question about the encoder interface configuration. There is an axis with a second encoder except the encoder on the motor. Simotion can get the second encoder value by profibus-dp. How can I configure this encoder in axis? From my understanding, there maybe two ways: ( Chapter 2.5.8 and Chapter 2.5.9 in Axis_TechnologyFct.pdf ) 1,configure encoder interface as a direct value in the I/O area; 2,configure a system variable to the encoder interface of axis and assign the encoder measuring value to the system variable. But I tried the first way and the axis can only be linear which is not acceptable in my case. Does anybody know why the axis can not be rotatory when the encoder value comes from I/O area? Are themethodsmentioned above both feasible? What's the difference between them when to solve my problem? Is there other way to use a DP interface encoder as the position feedback of axis? Looking forward to any recommendation. Thanks a lot!

This configuration ist used when you have hydraulic sensors an use it as encoder of a axis. Which encoder do you use exactly? When the encoder have a DP Interface you can use telegram 81 for the encoder and with this telegram you can configure a axis or a external encoder in Scout. Or you use a telegram witch supports 2 encoder values (e.g. Telegram 106) so you can configure a axis with two encoder datasets. Regards Christoph
