Hello hazem I'm afraid to say that I don't understand what exactly you need help with or what kind of advise you are seeking. Could you please provide us with the follwoing information: 1.) What equipment do you have (make an model number of PLC, HMI etc.) 2.) How is currently all connected (AS511, Profibus, Ethernet etc.) 3.) What equipmentdo you intend to upgrade and what do you want to keep (if any) 4.) Any additional infothat you can think of that would help us to help you (the more info and detail you can provide us with, the better) For now allow me to point you to the link below where you'll find a number of useful documents to get you started: SIMATIC S5-S7 Migration support I hope this helps |

Thanks hazem,it is now clearer what you intend to do and here are my suggestions: 1.) I can't help you with the Nematron unit (never used one), I suggest you get in touch with Nematron, supply them with the make and model of yourunit and ask them for manuals, configuration software etc. If this is no longer available (e.g. unit is too old), you'll need to do some reverese engineering to find out what functionality is implemented and what data points (addresses in the S5) are used. Evaluation of theS5 program canhelp with this (more so if it still has comments) but if not, you'llbe best of toschedule a down day and "play" with the S5 and Nematron unit to determine what tags are used and what their meaning is. 2.) Once the above is done, you are in a position to replicatethe functionality of the Nematron unit. As an interim measure with Step 5 this could take the form of setting up Variable Blocks (VB's) in the "Force Variable" table in whichyou configure the tags that were used to interface with the Nematron unit (this won't be very user friendly though). A better long term solution is togo for the WinCC flexible based HMI panel. You'll need WinCC flexible 2008 SP2 to be able to use the 928B programming port (AS511) for the HMI and below are few links with more on this: How is the connection between a Windows-based panel and a SIMATIC S5 set up? What connecting cables are there for connections between the operator panels and the different controllers? Delivery Release: Service Pack 2 for SIMATIC WinCC flexible 2008(see section "Support for new devices") Last but not least, a complete upgrade of the S5 and Nematron unit to an S7 an new HMI is of course the best choice. I hope this helps and good luck. |

Hello hazem I'm afraid to say that Ireally don't know how to answer that. The only guarantee you have for success is yourengineering ingenuity combined with a due diligence approach and risk management strategies in place. The best way to contain the risks associated with any upgrade is tohave a "fallback path" and avoid reaching a "point of no return" until the new system is proven(e.g. devise a way that you can easily switch between old and new,run old and new in parallel and verify the new system thouroughly before you "cut out" theold system for good). |
