Step7 and STARTER for Profibus, basic questins

I have downloaded sample projects from the entry: _____ SINAMICS G: Speed control of a G120/G120C/G120D/G120P using S7-300/400 (STEP 7 V5) with PROFINET/PROFIBUS, Safety Integrated (via terminals, not G120P) and HMI https://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/llisapi.dll?aktprim=4&lang=en&referer=%2fWW%2f&func=cslib.csinfo&siteid=cseus&groupid=4000003&extranet=standard&viewreg=WW&nodeid4=20229807&objaction=csopen _____ ...but I can't figure out something... Do I really need STARTER software in order to establish Profibus communication? Do I need Simotion add-on? Is it payable? When I open any of those projects, I get the message I miss some software, I don't have WinCC flex, I don't need it. But what about the rest? And yet, why don't I have Sinamics drive in my Hardware configuration? I have installed all the GSD files for Sinamic G120P drives, for firmwares V2, V3 and V6, but I still have the same problem. So, the question is, what should I install in order to have Profibus control over my G120P? I don't want to install unnecessary software just for plain communiation.

ChristophD Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 5/12/2006 Last visit: 12/19/2025 Posts: 22816 Rating: (3073)	Hello, please attach the pictures an not links to the pictures ;) And yes when you have a project where the drives are created with STARTER or SCOUT with the Objectmanager then you need STARTER/SCOUT to work with the project. The GSD can't work because the drives hav a other object ID ! Regards Christoph

BTW, even if I don't install the Starter, and even if I don't fully see the sample project, is it possible at all to communicate with G120P? I guess it is, right? You can download and install the latest STARTER V4.3.3.x. Withe this Version you don't need SIMOTION or DRIVE ES. Regards Christoph
