SQL Server 2005 SP4 - WinCC (Setup cannot complete the installation)

I have successfully installed WinCC V7 SP3 on Wndow 8 after getting this error message

"The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."

This is what I did to get SQL server installed. I used Service Pack SP4 for SQL. Do this before trying to install WinCC

1: Copy the setup files of the release version of SQL Server 2005 to a folder in a local drive. for example c:\sql2005install

Note You must copy all the setup files that include the Servers folder and the Tools folder to a local drive. You can find these files in the \InstData\SQL2005STD directory on the WinCC install disk

2: Download the SQL Server 2005 SP2/SP3 or 4 package or get it from WinCC Install disk, and then expand it on the local drive by using the /X parameter. For example, run the following command where you saved the service pack fileto expand the package:
SQLServer2005SP4-KB2463332-x86-ENU.exe /X

Select c:\SQL2005SP4as the extraction directory

3.Note the full paths to the new .msp files in the expanded update package. For example: C:\sql2005sp4\hotfixsql\files\sqlrun_sql.msp

4: At the command prompt, run the Setup.exe file from the release version by using the appropriate path to include the new .msp file in the setup.

example:

from the install directory "C:\sql2005install\servers" run the following incommand mode.
setup.exe HOTFIXPATCH="C:\SQL2005SP4\hotfixsql\files\sqlrun_sql.msp".

During the sql server setup process, whenthe prompt for default instance came up,I changed mine to WINCC. I did not try to install WinCC with just the default instance, you could try it if you like.

Note After you complete this step, you must apply the service pack package by running the setup file(s) "hotfix.exe. " in the expanded location "c:\SQL2005SP4" or just the service pack file itself SQLServer2005SP4-KB2463332-x86-ENU.exe

After this I was able to install WinCC. If you install simatic net remember not to use "_" or strange characters in the computer name


I know sql2005 or WinCC is not supported on win8 but this is a work around an so far has worked 100% on my system.
