Migration from S5 to S7 TIA Portal

Deepan86 Posts: 8 Rating: (2)	Hi there I am interested in migrating my S5 project to S7 TIA Portal. I've currently got S5 hardware which I want to change to S71200 or S71500. Hardware isn't my main problem, its more to do with migrating the software. What is the best advice to migrate from S5 over to TIA Portal. Would I have to migrate to Step7 Software then into TIA Portal from S5 or can I skip Step7? Thanks for your support and comments.

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1196)	Hi there.. welcome. I do not know of any tool that convert S5 straight to TIA. S5 to Step 7 V5.x - yes. The problem with the S7-1200 is that is does not handle STL. The S7-1500 does however handle STL.. but it is an expensive route to take. How complicated is the control system? Any communications backbone? If you can convert S5 coding to LAD / FBD / SCL manually, the S7-1200 remains a good option. Otherwise you can even consider a newer ET200 based stand-alone processor, before thinking about the S7-1500 in mu opinion. w

Deepan86 Posts: 8 Rating: (2)	Hi William Thank you very much for the quick reply and warm welcome. The control system doesn't seem that complex. I'm waiting for more information on this however. I too believe S7-1200 is the better route to take and more cost effective. I'm not sure what its currently coded in, I would suspect LAD. I've not come across the ET200 based stand alone processor.
