Can I use a standard SD memory card in an S7-1500 PLC?

If that is the case how do I format is to work in the S7-1500 PLC?

I know I am also paying for reliability with a Siemens SD card - but if I were willing to risk it on less critical processes.

It´s not possible because Siemens SD card have a special ROM inside. The PLC always check if it´s and won´t boot wiht third party SD Card.

Siemens is not the only memory card manufacturer authorized for s7-1200/1500 PLCs.  However, they are well known or readily available locally.
