What controller do you use?

• SIMATIC S7-1200 see motion control manual here.

  It is nearly the same like the SIMATIC S7-1500 manual, but the S7-1500T has more functionality, like "Cam" or "Kinematics".

But, by the way, the principle of motion control (PLCopen) is nearly the same in every SIMATIC controller you see above.

Passive homing does not move the drive. You need another (active) MC command to move the drive. When the drive reaches the refence switch, the position is set.

Active homing moves the drive until the reference switch is reached.

Typical use of active homing is a system with incremental encoder, which needs the reference to know its position.

A passive homing may be used to compensate a slip,e.g. of an external encoder with metering wheel.
