How to configure Huawei E3531 on IOT2040

frangbp04 Posts: 7 Rating: (1)	Hi everyone, I'm trying to configure an USB Dongle of Huawei model 3531 on my IOT2040, but it seems that it doesn't detect the dongle as a modem. Instead, it detects it as a mass storage device. Seems like, somehow, IOT detects the dongle as USB Mass Storage but also as an eth interface, so I don't know if it's a kernel configuration problem or I can use that eth2 interface to connect to internet. I followed some guides here at the forum and on the internet, but I think it's a kernel problem. At least the E3531 is reported to be recognized as mass storage or modem with this tool. Alternatively a user on here reported these devices to be working properly with the IOT: Huawei Model K3715 Huawei Model E173 Huawei Model E1752 Kind regards!

Current configuration number is 1 Use interface number 0 with class 2 USB description data (for identification) ------------------------- Manufacturer: HUAWEI Product: HUAWEI Mobile Serial No.: not provided ------------------------- Send old Huawei control message ... -> Run lsusb to note any changes. Bye!

This is what I get when I lsusb: root@iot2000:~# lsusb Bus 001 Device 005: ID 12d1:14dc Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Seems like it's already changed, but I'm stuck at this point. Edit: I think I finally find out the problem. It seems like the iot2000 doesn't detect the USB stick on ttyUSB0 and that's why I can not connect to the internet. root@iot2000:~# ifup modem /usr/sbin/pppd: In file /etc/ppp/options-mobile: unrecognized option 'ttyUSB0'

I used this command to changue the USB dongle from his Hilink mode to his stick or modem mode. usb_modeswitch -W -I -v 12d1 -p 1f01 -M 55534243123456780000000000000011062000000100000000000000000000 Also you have to edit the /etc/usb_modewitch.conf file to set to 1 the DisableSwitching option. This has to be done before you use the command I wrote. Best regards!

In Linux - in my case Raspberry - after lsusb I see this: Bus 001 Device 008: ID 12d1:1506 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Modem/Networkcard not yours 14dc but 1506. I followed your footsteps all the way. I'd like to ask how did you assemble the final code: usb_modeswitch -W -I -v 12d1 -p 1f01 -M 55534243123456780000000000000011062000000100000000000000000000 especially the 1f01 and the 5553... in help is something about hexadecimal as a string...
