SCL for newbie

Hi all, 

I have completed a few of my own personal projects purely using Ladder. I know in some of the blocks it would have been quicker to use SCL as i have seen similar examples online. 

What is the best way to learn SCL as the manuals aren't all that clear to be honest. 

Also could someone post a picture of a simple stop, start for a motor please so i see how it is actually done.

I've seen some online tutorials. Hint: search for "Structured Text".

SCL is a very powerful programming tool, but it is closer to a high-level programming language (like C/C++ or Pascal) than ladder, and you must familiarize yourself with internal functions (such as IF/Then/else, For/Do, Case of...) and also the working environment before you are at ease with it.

Do not worry if at first glance it looks more complicated than what you are used to dealing with in a PLC. Look at the following description of SCL programming for TIA Portal to get acquainted with SCL:

Motor := StartMotor;

Motor := Motor AND E-STOP ;

 Thank you very much for the explanation, it is a huge step up from Ladder but we need to constantly learn. Very much appreciated.
