FFhas been plagued by long delays as you can see from the following quote from Wikipedia: ". . . FOUNDATION fieldbus was originally intended as a replacement for the 4-20 mA standard, but many delays in its development have prevented its large scale use, and has allowed other technologies such as Modbus, Profibus, and Industrial Ethernet to gain large installed bases. . ." But as you mentioned (off late) the demand has been growing and all players (including Siemens) realize the importance of this... Regards

RAW Posts: 1 Rating: (1)	In The Netherlands the PCS 7 Foundation Fieldbus connection has been used in two projects. I don't think the question was about the pro's and con's of FF against PA, but more about pratical experience with FF in PCS 7. We used the Rosemount module withtwo FF segments (four possible), connected to Profibus DP at 1,5 Mbps. There are in this project about 8 instruments of several Vendors. It took a junior engineer about two days to setup the configuration and get it running (mostly driver incompatabilities of the device vendors). The PCS 7 configuration setup was less then an hour. We tried the "Control in Field" option of the Rosemount module, but the positioner (different vendor) has lack of memory to run it. Since the CiF option is only supported in one segment no one uses it, so we configured master slave. PCS 7 module drivers and PDM access was no problem, the biggest limitation was the 350 mA per segment the Rosemount module performs. In the new Siemens FF module (comming soon)this current will hopefully bemuch more like our PA module nowadays, it's 1 A in ringstructure !!

Well i also had the concern about the 350mA limit in which we need to operate. well good to see that an Interface card is under development. Do you have any idea when this FF H1 card will be launched within Siemens?? Thanks anyways, regards,

You mightget some information for selling one of yourMEGA projects.But it cannot be demanded. The ground reality is that Foundation Fieldbus isa relatively newadditionin Siemens.Unless some installations aremade andproven,we (small-time guys) prefer to sell by pointing out there is not much difference inProfibus and FF unless some customer demands intelligent field devices which have loop functions in built (which is very rare in most ofour customers bases). We look up to people like you from Siemens direct who can do some installations by using your "MEGA" statusand gives us reference/guidance in how to implement it. Not the other way round. I found a document on the internet (from a PCS7 documentation). I cannot upload as it is larger. So will send it to you in your email. Gunners Posts: 130 Rating: (18)	Dear Krish, I take a vow, that i will definitely change the scenario for Siemens with FF here once we get the FF H1 interface card up and running from the siemens stable by the end of this year. Infact i find a lot of potential for DCS business in india. Considering Siemens, here in india we are trying to make a mark in the market with our system. Anyways all your suggestions are valuable. please do provide me any information which can help me bag a project for Siemens. Thanks & regards Pratap

If you have PCS7 installed you can find information in PCS7 installation folder .... \SIEMENS\STEP7\S7MANUAL\PCS7GS\PCS7_V70_in-practice_DP_FF_Link_xx.pdf Hope can help a lil Regards
