Name confusion Step7 basic vs. Step7 pro?

Wulfgar Posts: 42 Rating: (3)	The naming makes you think that Step 7 pro is a more advanced package then Step7 basic not a completely different package. Step 7 Basic is version 10.5 but Step7 Pro is version 5.4 or 5.5 but there is no corrilation. They say Step 7 Basic is the their flagship software platform but it seems to be missing so many basic features as if it's still a early beta release and not something that has reached it's 10th version. So when you talk about Step7 you have to clarify that you are talking about the software to program S7-300/400 or S7-1200 series PLCs. Maybe they should of given one of them a different name.

I certainly haven't heard of any plans to abolish it, PCS7 will continue to "need" it (together with the "traditional" WinCC)and anyone who deals with S7 PLC'swillend up having to maintain a copy of the "traditional" Step 7as well as TIA Portal based one to ensure he can serve all customers. That'smy two cents on this subject anyhow and I also agree thatnaming confusion as mentioned by Wulfgardoes indeed exist and is not helpful.
