I really didn't want to do this, but unfortunately there are instances when public shaming is the only remaining course of action. Sort of last resort. This (unfortunately) might be one of these instances. A little bit of background: Based on my effort to improve the user experience of using the TIA portal a little bit, by weekly SR submissions from THE LIST, last week I submitted the issue no. 3.1:
Basically what happens is that if you "cut & paste" or "drag & drop" a network in the LAD editor in TIA 15, most of the time the numerical values in the code get deleted. Basically it just deletes a part of your code. The problem is even worse if you don't notice it immediately and save the project. The undo history gets deleted and you have no way to recover the values (another SR of mine). If I remember correctly the bug was actually introduced somewhere in the TIA15 update cycle (it wasn't part of the initial release). As part of my explanation of the problem I even provided a "workaround" to help with the bug diagnostics: If you define the numerical value as a named constant in your code, it never gets deleted. Now the (not so) funny part: I received the following official response from the development team:
After inquiring further, and showing the serious are the implications of the issue, I got:
Now for the implications:
And finally my message to the development team / TIA product managers:
