The S7-200 Smart range of products is not something I have experience with. So I will concentrate on the forum usage suggestion. Help the forum volunteers to know from which base they are working from.

Please consider expanding on detail..
+ what do you want to know exactly?
+ what do you know already?
+ what have you tried already?
+ which version software do you have?

Some of the questions you have might not be related directly to the ST20, but some might have answers for those. Best to contact a Siemens office near you if you are starting from ground level.

As an exit note: Siemens documentation is very good. See if you can get hold of the System Manual for the S7-200 Smart.

Section 7.2 onwards will describe the use of the PTO insructions, the SM bits required to control a pulse train output that you can use to establish a motion profile on a stepper motor.
