Hi, A SEC card is in no way related to the amount of work memory. A SEC card is used to store AS PO. The CPU410-5H is the most advanced CPU and it's a scalable CPU. If you have a small project and the project increases, you won't have to buy a new CPU because the hardware limitations are met. Instead, you need to buy AS PO and then you scale the CPU according to your needs and those are stored on the SEC. The amount of PO configured in your AS project depends the amount you need. Another advantage is that when the CPU is defect, you can simply remove the SEC card and use it on another CPU. Without a valid license, download is not possible, unlike AS RT PO. Those are stored on the ES in ALM and are bookable PO. You still need those as well for each PO object in your AS project. PS: A piece of advice: When you need to extend the AS PO on the SEC, make sure you do this one day before implementation. You need to send the activation file to Siemens via a SR and you get a release file in return which you need to activate the new PO on the CPU SEC card. This procedure can take up one day. Dear Oreca Thank you for your help. In this link I see that CPU memory is dependant on used SEC card. I agree with you because as I said I had experience of working with three 410-5H CPUs with different SEC cards all has the same 32MB of memory. But i can't understand descriptions in the link above. Thanks in advance |

The work memory on the 410-5H is 32MB and cannot be expanded with memory cards or any other means. In short the SEC has no direct impact on work memory, it impacts the number of AS POs you can add and number of IOs. You can calculate the number of POs in your project using the following post: Calculation of AS RT PO and OS RT PO - 215687 - Industry Support Siemens Refer to section 16.3 of this manual CPU 410 Process Automation (siemens.com) for technical info on the SEC (fyi the SEC is not physical, it is a license you load to the AS). |
