I have a customer who had a WinCC basic/comfort/advanced v17 application (fwc file) on a Win10 tablet computer.  They then wanted to move the WinCC application to a new Win11 laptop.  I used Automation License Manager (ALM) to transfer the runtime license from the tablet to a USB drive, and then used ALM on the new Win11 laptop to transfer to license from USB to C drive.  This worked and the fwc file on the new laptop worked.

Due to other problems with the new laptop they wanted to move back to the Win10 tablet.  I transferred the license from the Win11 laptop to a USB and this worked.  I tried to transfer the WinCC runtime license to the old laptop, but in Automation License Manager it does not see the USB drive. If I go to Log view and back to Management view it briefly shows the USB drive but then it disappears and I only see C drive. I think this is a known issue. I have tried:

1. running Automation License Manager as administrator

2. update drive list

3. Insert USB after ALM is already open

On the new target computer that I am trying to transfer to Automation License Manager is v6.2

The Win10 tablet sees the USB drive in Explorer and I can successfully perform file operations on it. It is just ALM that won't recognize it. If I put the USB back in the source Win11 laptop, it sees the licenses on the USB drive.

Any ideas on how to fix this?  The application runs on the Win10 tablet with the annoying license warning, but is usable.  I want to get the runtime license working on the Win10 tablet, but if ALM doesn’t see the USB drive I can’t transfer it.

No, v6.2 is the version of ALM, not 6.25.  Will that fix it?

It sounds like this will generate a file that I have to load, but the difference is I can copy the file to the C drive of the target machine, which mitigates the problem with reading the USB, right?
