Oily subtance coming out of SED2 (MM430)?

NAS_fac Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello, I have four SED2 drive on 25 HP motors. Electrician noted what looks like oil on the case between the input, and output terminals. Out of the 19 drives, only these four seem to have it. Drives are still running normally at 40Hz. Anyone have a clue what this may be? Scott

GrantForeman Posts: 14 Rating: (1)	Any chance of external contaminant being blown into the drive by the fans? Unless there is a leaking component (i.e. capacitor), however, I have not seen leaky capacitors for a long time now. Kind regards

NAS_fac Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Thanks for the reply Grant.... There is no way something could have been introduced from the outside...these drives are mounted inside an MCC panel. I have a spare 10HP drive I looked at to see what componant may be leaking from above. DC link caps are no where near where the oil is present. However an IGBT is above this area. Possibly heat sink paste has broken down and run out on to the case? Possible?

I think the IGBT would be destroyed before this happens. Most heatsink pastes are more than capable of dealing with "normal" industrial purposes before leaching, evaporating or drying out. However, I have nothing else constructive to add. Let us know if you do find out what it is. Keep the cleaners out the panel
