PCS7 for a Mehanol petrochemical plant

puya Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi I am the instrumentation and control lead engineer of an engineering company (PIDEC) and we have a customer who is interested in PCS7. Unfortunatelywe do not have muchexperience with this system and inprevious projects we have worked with Emerson delta v or centum 3000 yokogawa. I have the following questions: 1.Please forward any useful information for me regarding PCS7 process control system and explain does it have the necessary performaces, the DCS systems should have in dealing with complex control loops such as lower execution times and so on or this system is basically a PLC system used for Batch control purposes? 2.We have already designedour control loop topology based on Pepperl & Fuchs field barrier. There are 3 barriers per field bus segment and 3field devices per barrier. Could this topologybe match with PCS7?Can we actually use Field barriers with Profibus instead of foundation fieldbus? 3.What are the advantages of using Profibus with respect to foundation fieldbus?

No, it is most certainly not a PLC system used for batch control, although it can be used for that as well as life safety and process control. It also embraces the "top-down" approach of a DCS. There are numerous installations of PCS7 in both Methanol generation and Polyethylene around the globe. 2.We have already designedour control loop topology based on Pepperl & Fuchs field barrier. There are 3 barriers per field bus segment and 3field devices per barrier. Could this topologybe match with PCS7?Can we actually use Field barriers with Profibus instead of foundation fieldbus? I'm not familiar with P&F field barrier. You may want to look at the intrinsically safe EX modules, where they can be directly installed in standard oil-tight enclosures in hazardous environments without using explosion-proof barriers. I've not worked with it directly - I have worked with engineers who have used it extensively - it's incredible technology. I wish it existed 20 years ago when I did paint booths. Also, I understand PCS7 v7 supports foundation fieldbus.
