S7-400H with PN I/O - clarification needed

My system has a redundant 412-5H pair, and 6 I/O racks with IM153-4 HF as interfaces. Profinet nodes will be on a ring, to use the MRP redundancy protocol. My question is: where does the ring close at CPUs? - Do I connect the CPUs each other using the RJ45 ports, or - Do they close the ring using the redundancy link? I ask this because I am trying to configure the hardware on Simatic Manager but the ring is not recognized unless i connect the CPUs each other. Second question is: besides the official data (200ms reconfiguration time), does anybody have experience on MRP performances? Do the I/Os timeout? Thanks in advance

A step by step procedure can be found in the help file of simatic manager. In help just search for "Configuring Media Redundancy in PROFINET IO". Have attached the screen shot for reference. The ring closes via the FO based redudancy link between the two CPU's, see System Redundancy with IM153-4 PN IO High Featurefor more on this. ste_angioni Second question is: besides the official data (200ms reconfiguration time), does anybody have experience on MRP performances? Do the I/Os timeout? You are actually NOT using "traditional' Profinet MRP in this case, but afeature that Siemens (arguably misleadingly) calls "System Redundancy". While I can't offer any hands onexperience with this just yet, you'll see from the previous link thatthe changeover time will be "typically" about30ms (and better be bumpless withoutI/O time out). Have a look too at chapter 8 of the SIMATIC Fault-tolerant systems S7-400H for more on the subject of using Profinet I/O's in a H-system. I hope this helps
