S7 CPU as data logger

UMENCHO Diamond Member Joined: 3/21/2006 Last visit: 11/1/2024 Posts: 10229 Rating: (1181)	My vote also is for using a simple VB application receiving temperatures (data) from PLC continuesly (build a TCP conncetion, where the CPU will be passive) and filling on the same time preapred DB. In this case CPU will be used like a intermediate divice which will read the temperature (without to store function) and really you can collect much more samples of temeprature (not only for a month). Dear TIBI68, I thought he wants to log data in PLC itself and that's why i suggest to go with S7200. But i don't understand his requirement too.. it seems that he wants to log data in PC subject is misguiding. No Problem

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (264)	You should take care of 2 things - 1) What measurement frequency should this log support? 2) Can interruption occur between PLC and PC? If yes - you have to implement buffer in PLC as stated above. But please mention, that using MMC card for this purpose is not the best idea - it has it's own read-write cycles number.

None of the real solutions exist, to have the data samples buffered in PLC, and then read out in for example WinCC scada TagLogging system. All the solutions from this old topic are actually alternative solutions, but not the answer to the initial question. Even the Telecontrol option is very limited by the amount of data it is capable to store in PLC. If anybody has any decent solution for this question, please share it with me. I will be very happy to know that I am wrong. Best regards
