Changing PLC battery questions

Jhon Alvati Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	HI, im a student and never experience changing PLC battery. i have some questions in mind. 1. how will i know if the battery is low or it needs to be replaced.? 2. what if the battery is low then it was not replaced. for what point of time can it go? i mean until it will totally shuts off? 3. Can i Change the battery even with out low battery indications.? just asking thank you for your respect and answers. :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Split from Changing a battery of PLC S7-400 - alarm battery fault.

Can i Change the battery even with out low battery indications.? just asking Just brief answers to your questions: Information provided on the PS405/407 can help for as indication for battery changing.Also the interrupt to the user program can also facilitate an alarm generation.More information regarding LED status and types of alarms can be found HERE. The importance of battery to keep internal RAM of CPU and other functions of CPU like CPU's internal clock live when the main power is lost.Before planned power outage , it is recommended to replace the batteries because it is not possible to estimate if current old batteries can handle the required power even for a short period. Yes, it is possible to replace batteries when there is no indication, and it is recommended to do so when the main power is ON. I hope this helps, hdhosseini

Can i Change the battery even with out low battery indications.? just asking 1. Yellow LED "BAT" 2. my experience: at least 1 month. Perhaps longer if main power is always ON. 3. Yes. Siemens says every year. My experience: If main power stays always on, battery may be good for 10 years. Last month I replace an original Siemens Battery in S5 CPU. It was still OK. It was build in 1994. .
