Hello Mahesh; When Siemens presented Profinet to the automation world, it came in 2 flavours: Profinet I/O, used to connect remote I/O modules to one or more central controllers over TCP/IP, with its own particularities; and Profinet CBA (Component-based Automation), which was a totally different beast. Profinet CBA was designed to resolve all participating elements in a plant (machinery, communications, controllers, SCADA and management) as modular components defined through a specialized software (Imap) that you used to configure all components; you could then connect these components as building blocks in a complex pattern. It was meant to simp^lify the programming and the reading of results from the factory floor. Very ambitious plan, that was not very well implemented in the industrial world. Here are 2 documents, one a short presentation of the Profinet CBA concepts, the other providing links to various manuals on Imap. PROFINET CBA Protocol Overview - Real Time Automation How can you implement the communication concept of PROFINET CBA with PROFINET IO? Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Thanks, Same thing we can achieve with i-device & shared device. Which is the best way for the same? |

Hello Mahesh; I cannot answer this question. I have never attempted to re-develop CBA architecture using I-devices. If you want to research this, I suggest you start by studying the Getting Started manual for Profinet CBA, it will show you how the Siemens developers believed a CBA project should be engineered, and you can decide howyou would have to structure your project. Hello dchartier, I am not asking for re-develop CBA arch. using I-device. I want to know about the difference between Profinet CBA & Profinet IO as explained in following: Which is the best method to achieve IO sharing among Profinet CBA & Profinet IO ? Thanks |

Hello Mahesh; As you can see by the contents of the manual you proposed earlier, there are 2 parallel developments required for a CBA project: on one side, the compnent development for CBA (using IMap for Siemens components), and one for Profinet IO, to link the components ot the varions IO controllers and I-devices in the project. This document should explain how the development of components for CBA is a completely distinct process (see for example the discussion on the CBA "coordinator") from what you can do with Profinet IO alone. Simatic IMap- Creating Profinet Components Look at the video link below, which shows examples of created components with their related technological functions; the IN/OUT variables of the defined technological functions will have to use Profinet IO (or Profibus-DP) to be transfered from/to all participating controllers in the project.
