which plc should I choose?

stewpid1 Experienced Member Joined: 10/15/2014 Last visit: 11/7/2024 Posts: 80 Rating: (2)	I have been asked to look at modifying a machine control panel that currently has no plc/HMI controls. The machine has 8 heaters with independent temperature control, and 12 motors each with its own vsd and independent speed control by potentiometer. The heaters have j/k type thermocouples and are supplied by solid state relays. I want to use a siemens plc (1200 or 1500) and HMI and siemens g120's to control the motors and heaters. The vsd's would be controlled via profinet using motion control blocks, and the heaters using pid control blocks and pwm outputs?. bearing in mind I would need 8 analog inputs that could read thermocouple signals, as well as the pwm outputs, what would be the best plc model/expansion card combination to use? could it be done with a 1200? Oh, and I would probably need about 32 digital inputs.
