Why siemens does not provide S7-200 simulator software?

zani2 Posts: 15 Rating: (1)	Hello I can not imaigine how we can test and deliver reliable and complex industerial systems with S7-200 PLC without having good S7-200 software simulator(that simulates S7-200 hardwares), How we can find bugs in our system? How we can find rapidly a bug in software? I am sure there are hidden bugs also that without simulation we can not find them, There are third party simulators but thay are not good and professional and MICROWIN does not support them. Please ask siemens for better software tools! I am tired from this awful tools.( and expensive)

Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi zani2, I recomend to use a real HW. 1. S7-200HW is not so expensive 2. A Simulator SW is ok for bit control. I belive for more complex automation (HSC, PTO/PWM, PID, IT, EM253, Datalog ....) the simulator result would not be useful. Who has experiances with S7-200 Simulation SW? Whould be interesting to get more information. Maybe I'm wrong. Regards Helmut

zani2 Posts: 15 Rating: (1)	for very small microcontrollers like as AVR we have very good simulators and debuggers,but for important task with S7-200 for industerial control we do not have a reliable and professional debugger? (Like as jtag debugger for microcontrollers ,that you can see the internal of PLC variables and memory and execution of program in runtime in real hardware) I do not understand why siemens does not have such software?!!! Plz do not explanate!

I've got one too. Why is the S7-200 series not integrated in STEP7? Now I have to use 2 engineering tools for programming Siemens S7 CPUs. In the "good old days" there was just one engineering tool: STEP5. OK, I know STEP7 is a bit more expensive the STEP7-Micro/Win, but why not the possibility to use both STEP7 and STEP7-Micro/Win?

It would be very nice to have the S7-200-series to be programmed in STEP7-Micro/Win as well as in STEP7 (Professional).

Husam Posts: 101 Rating: (11)	STEP 7 Pro is meant to program and simulate "ladder or STL" on S7-300+ PLCs, which belong to the mid-class PLC family that Siemens is producing. I think it's SIemens marketing and business driver to separate between PLC families into low-class (s7-200), Mid-class and High-Class family, for a number of reasons such as Peformance, capacity, cost, ... etc. However, if STEP7 Pro is done is such a way that it can handle s7-200, then this will have a double-edged effect: One is that it is easier for PLC progarmmers to get 2 in 1 package, and the negative effect is Simens losing or elimating the low-class environment (MicroWin (cheap)) from the full picture. These are just my thoughts. BR// Husam

marcsinclair Posts: 49 Rating: (5)	I realise this is an old thread, but it comes up again and again. The s7-200 is aimed squarely at small to medium machine control. When you are designing control systems for such machinery, then the actual mechanisms are integral to the system. This means that simulation software is almost useless. The easiest way to create bug free software is to work methodically and systematically. I have hundreds of systems in the real world which have never needed modification after the factory, I'm not a genius, it's not rocket science, it's all in the manuals. Micro Win has to be one of the cheapest programming tools available, it supports IEC and is not even dongled. As for expensive, Siemens almost give it away with a starter pack.
