Simotion Cycle Time

Hi,

I'm trying to get more information on cycle time of Simotion controllers.

As far as I know, Simotion D (D425,D435,D445 or D455) have the best cycle time on servo axis control over 0.25ms. We need 2 to 3 servo axis.

We have done testing using CPU1217 which has about 2ms cycle time and this seems not so much different from Simotion D. 

I've seen some FPGA based controllers with nano second response times.

Is there any version of controllers from Siemens with faster cycle time? Or is this the best choice we have?

OT. In my opinion, few times faster makes a difference.

Just because of my curiosity. For what you need so short servo cycle?

There is more than the cycle time in a Simotion controller, or in general a motion control controller, there is the real time synchronization,motion coordination,... which a normal PLC doesn't necessarily perform

Strictly deterministic synchronism (constant control clock cycle) is decisive for motion control applications as well as reproducible (re-)actions – and not just a fast bus clock cycle alone.

With SINAMICS and DSC, minimum position controller clock cycles of 125 μs are possible.

as far as I know the fastest response can come from IPO synchronous tasks, but you cannot overload them with tons and tons of lines of codes, because normally these tasks schedulings are used for (few) super fast operations...

System cannot be faster than that, otherwise you need to work with DSC technology of Sinamics, but you cannot do everything with them...

Offtopic: if you need nanoseconds response time, then Siemens cannot help you, you need to build custom FPGA/DSP for your application... But honestly I cannot figure, in automation standard technology, why there is the need of having nanosecond responses for a program... Normally when I run things @ 3ms they are fast and fast enough...
