Hi, this is no problem. The 214 is able to send/receive ASCII charackters. XMT is supported by each firmware. RCV is supported with firmaware version 1.10 or higher. If you have an older verison <1.10 then you have to handle SMB2 because RCV is not supported. Have a look to S7-200 TIP 05, 37(2'nd CD of MicroWIN, Programming Tips). This tips use SMB2 to receive charackters in the "old" way. Instead of ASCII communication you cna also use OPC-Server. PC-Access is a OPC Server for S7-200.
