Can get a reliable DOS emmulator for a Win7/Win10 laptop?

A huge thank you for the support of older systems.

Could I ask if there is an easy way to get the software to run on a modern laptop? Do I need to resurrect an old winXP machine, or run an emulator on a Xubuntu machine, or can I get a reliable DOS emmulator for a Win7/Win10 laptop? 

Does the TI PLC require a serial connection, can I use a USB to serial adaptor?

My main goal is to get the ladder out of an existing PLC and work with the input/output list and logic to get it onto something modern. Am I reaching for the stars?

Did you ever try DOSBOX ?

You can get it even in "portable" format.

Head to portableapps.com and search for it.

I currently use it to work with TI505 under Windows 10 64 bit.

I'm just not sure about going online through the serial port but you can easily try it out.

Remember to use only COM1 or COM2.

Sorry this is a late me too answer, but, yes DOSBox works well, I use it almost every day with TIsoft 7.1.

NOTE that if you ask about this on the DOSBox forums, they will tell you: do not use DOSBox for this purpose!  So don't ask.

Their explanation is something along the line that DOSBox is developed for DOS gaming, and should only be used for that.  It was not intended for programming a PLC.

I'm using Oracle VM Virtual Box. You cannot emulate a DOS machine but you can emulate a WInXP machine. VIrtual Box is free software, you can get it from the internet.

 Why?!? You can easily install dos, freedos and other OS within VirtualBox and alike?!?

Qemu, Dosbox, WinXP with 1 CPU only etc. Also check out the new Field PG with S5 option. It must be ordered this way and has a usb to serial converter inside!

I try virtual box before but it not work ok with all plc and drive software specially with adapters and converters communication

Finally I installed two OS win7 32bit and win10

with SSD hard Switching will be very quickly

 Most vms are not realtime and therefore can break communications. With the Siemens USB adpater (newest model) I did get most things to work, but serial and older stuff is tough. E.g. step5 mostly only runs with one core which is a hassle nowadays!

 As a further comment about your Xubuntu machine, the debian/ubuntu repositories do contain the DOSbox emulator.  I've used it with Ubuntu, and I've used it with Raspbian on the raspberry pi.  TIsoft runs well.  On the rPi, it works much faster on a Pi 4 of course, but speed is acceptable on a Pi 3.  I have successfully used the UART to go online from a Pi 2 to the TI545.  ( I didn't do it on a Pi 4 because I'm using that computer for other tasks.)
