2 identical systems with 2 Scalance X204-2

I have got two identical S7 300-F systems with Comfort panels and X204-2 Scalance switches. All systems have unique IP adresses. My client installed a fiber optic "profiBUS" cable between them and it is not working. 1. since the cable fits the plugs on the scalance switch, I assume it should work, even tho it is not a profibus connection. I recon the cable is just the wrong color. Do I assume right? 2. do I have to do anything in my scalance switch to active the 2 "optic" ports? I thought I could just tie my two switches together. Am I assuming this right? Any help would be great! Ton

Because, even with Profibus OLM, you can choose for multimode, monomode or plastic fiber. And they have all BFOC (ST) connectors ... The X204-2 expects multimode fiber. By default, all ports are active, also the FO ports. Be just aware that you have to cross the 2 fibers of a pair (there is a send and receive, look at the symbols on the switch.) The sender must arrive on the receiver of the remote switch.

Switches that support plastic fiber fave a "P" in their naming. The standard X204-2 switch requires multimude glass fiber, with the data specified in theOperating instructions: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/63203633 at page 65.

Just one more question, as a *** on using fiber optics and related equipment, should I see a light coming out the "out going" ports when nothing is connected but RJ45 plugs? I have a couple OLM modules as well, and there I do see this light..
