2 Mointoring of 2 PLC In 1 PC.

ChessMaster Posts: 84 Rating: (1)	I want to make 2 monitoring of 2 PLC at the same IP range in 1 PC. and capability of changing monitoring service to any of PLCs. What is the best solution if we had both monitoring program seperated ? Should i define all Tags to one project or there is a smple way ?

ateam Bronze Member Joined: 12/8/2006 Last visit: 11/27/2023 Posts: 170 Rating: (26)	hi, i have several solution in order to display the data of 2 independed wincc projects on 1pc: at first: It is not possible to run2 different wincc projects at the same time on the same computer. ######################## (1) WinCC Server/Client ####################### You can use a (standard) WinCC-Client to control and monitoring the data of multiple WinCC-Server. requirements: 1.1 changing wincc-project type to "multi-User Project" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You have to change the project type of the two independed wincc projects to "multi-User Project". In this case you need the wincc server license additionally on both computers. Then you must create the server packages. 1.2 configure a new client computer ------------------------------------------------------- - Install wincc on aseparate computer. You need the wincc RT-Client License - Create a new wincc project (type "Client Project") on this computer and configure it. - running the OS-Project Editor (configure the layout of the wincc runtime ) - Import the Server Packages of the two other wincc projects advantage: - engineering costs are very low!!!! - in runtime you can chosse the pocess pictures multiple wincc servers. ####################### (2) Web-Navigator Server/Cleint ####################### 2.1 Install wincc-Web Navigor Server ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Install wincc web navigator server on both wincc-computers - you need a license for web navigator server - publish the pictures and scripts - configure the web users note! there linitations in engineering! (not all script functions are running on web clients) 1.2 configurethe web client computer ------------------------------------------------------- - you can use a new computer or one or both existing wincccomputer. - configure the web client in windows internet explorer. ####################### (3) Remote Control Software ####################### It's possinble to usespecial softwarelike pc-Anywhere, VNC or NetMeeting to control a remote computer. ####################### (4) merge wincc projects ####################### It's possibleto merge the two different wincc projects, but the engineering costs are high!!!! ( - import tags, messages, text library - copy pictures ...... )

Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi, I didn't really understand what you're trying to do.. you want to communicate with 2 PLC's which have the same IP? And you want to do that over 2 different projects in the same computer? If so, you can only run 1 WinCC project at a time in a computer. And if you have 2 different projects, and decide to run one at a time, remember that as long as the project isn't running, Tag and Alarm Logging will not be collecting data for that project... so you'll be losing that information. If the PLC's are only within the same IP range, and can have different IP's, you can create a single project... and create separate screens for them. This way, you'd have different displays and operating permissions. The data would be logged at all times for both PLC's, and the users would only be able to access data from the PLC which they'll be working with. Could you explain what you're trying to do a little further? I guess if I understood better I could help out more... Best regards, Danielle

That is mean 2 PLCs and Two Monitoring and surely 2 PCs for them. I want to merge them together, my mean is i want make capability to change PC1 to monitor PLC2 and vise verse. I decided to define all Tag of WINCC project 1and WINCC project 2 into new project that contain allTags and screensand connecting 2 PCs and 2PLCs to one HUB and setting IPsin same range. But i feel there should be simple way to do that.

( - import tags, messages, text library - copy pictures ...... We have severel projects here where there are several PLC's, but they are used to control 2 parts of a plant. Certain users must only have access to area 1, some only have access to area 2, and others have access to both areas. What we do is configure a single project, and limit right access. To import all the tags, alarm and tag logging information, etc. you could use Configuration Tool. Importing .pdl's is easier. It does require some engineering, and you gotta make sure you don't have scripts and internal tags with the same name, so everything is done smoothly... You'll also need to remember protecting access to trends and reports.. and one thing we found out is that users always hate having alarms from other areas displayed at their screen, 'cause it disturbs their operation, so you should probably filter alarms too, and maybe just leave a couple of critical ones being displayed at all times. In some of our applications, users which have access to all areas may want to operate only one of them at a time. So we had to configure an "area selection" tool, which is what actually defines if alarms from all areas will be displayed or not. Hope it all goes well! Best regards, Danielle

Weird thing happened at the forum: I read an answer from you, and when I tried to reply there was a system problem.... and now your answer is gone, I refresh the screen and it's as if it had never been posted.. either there was a problem or I'm going crazy! The answer I somehow read was saying that it would be good if there was a way to use a set of mouse, video and keyboard which could be used to control 2 PC's... and there is.. check this KVM switches site. And the definition of KVM in wikipedia. But the downside to this is the user would have to switch systems to check for alarms... Like I said, if you have only 1 project, you could get all alarms, or at least the critical ones, for both systems. This way, if a user is operating area 1, area 2 will still be monitored for critical faults. Best regards, Danielle

That was a light in my mind to doing this but when i tought more about it, i findout it was not be correct way because of this is not a safe way to doing this job and when one PC damaged there is not any possibility to monitor another PLC so in this case there is only redunduncy for monitor, keboard and mouse Thank you for your replay i appreciate you for your responsibility to solve people problem. Danielle Posts: 1275 Rating: (123)	Hi Navid, So I must have read it right before you deleted... thought I had gone crazy! Anyway... As I said, what we do in these situations is use one project only. Like I said, you could use configuration tool for tag and alarm logging, tags, text library and general project information. Just remember to check for duplicate tag names. For screens all you have to do is copy, but also remember to check for duplicate names, and configure navigation properly. For the alarms you could set up a filter, like I told you. If the user is only working with area 1, he'll only get messages for that specific area, and critical messages for area 2. With that you'll prevent the system from a message overflow... it'll help a lot when one area is under maintenance, so that particular PLC is generating multiple messages which should be disregarded by users operating the other PLC. A filter should help sort out what's really important at that time! Well... you got some work ahead of you, so good luck with that! Best regards, Danielle
