E.g. both rotary encoder coupled on NDE of motor and linear encoder installed on CNC machine body send feedback signal to the controller. Then controller compares two signals and decides to accept which value. On big differences, controller stops axis.

SteveA Posts: 297 Rating: (41)	I know the 840D supports this, and probably all others. If two encoders are defined for an axis, the PLC chooses which one is the active encoder. If the parameter ENC_DIF_TOL is not zero, the two encoders are compared. If the difference exceeds the parameter, the control causes an alarm. HTH, SteveA

You can swap between the two and you can monitor the difference . I can't see what criteria the controller could follow to choose between which encoder to use though. It must be set up by the programmer. I'm sure other people will have suggestions as well.
