tripping of 3RW soft starter on equipment error fault

champu Regular Member Joined: 4/16/2008 Last visit: 2/10/2009 Posts: 14 Rating: (4)	With most popular scheme in most of the country ,why 3RW40 soft starter tripping on equipment error fault (iedevice & failure LED ON continuously),whenmotor started via external bypass contactor. Scheme attached for the reference: Scheme description:Normaly motor started via soft starter in case due some some reason softstarter become faulty then we can start the motor with the help of external bypass contactor. can you suggest why this prblem is occuring Attachment single line diagram.pdf (1143 Downloads)

LesPaul Posts: 467 Rating: (59)	Hello champu, The SIRUS Softstarter 3RW40 recognize if on the output terminals (T1…T3) the line voltage is active and no ON-Command is given by terminal 3. The SIRIUS Softstarter trips in such case with failure. Our Softstarter 3RW40 has already built in a bypass contactor and an overload relay, so is it most of time not needful connecting an additional separate external bypass contactor. Only at minor cases at which a separate external bypass contactor is in use the Softstarter generate such failure message. Our suggestion is for such cases to switch off the control voltage supply on terminal A1 with a NC contact of the separate external bypass contactor. (attachment) After this wiring modification the Softstarter generate so long no failure message the separate external bypass contactor is switched on. Santoosh Posts: 22 Rating: (7)	Hi, As said, softstarter checks the voltage across the out put terminals and it is for "internal ramp up detection" of the soft starter which is used for switchingON the internal bypass contactor before the ramp up time. For external bypass contactor type operations, the below drawing is very useful. Regards, Santhosh.

Kind regards Dear Sir, Thank you for your valueable reply. i have implemented your valueable suggession but i am facing one more problem when i am trying to start the motor via external by pass contactor motor protection relay which i have showed in the single line diagram is tripping on unbalence current fault. please suggest the suggession, karan

Also check the load current setting on the relay with the actual. Is the relay tripping in ground fault ? Check the % deviation of current in three phases during starting. Is the relay with internal earth fault protection or external setting ? Is the winding winding earthed? I hope any of the above is the reason for your relay tripping.

Dear Shantoo, Motor stating current deviated by 30%, but i am not able to understand where is the problem,there should not be any problem inside the motor as it running fine with soft starter
