Hi, The Ring topology that's shown in the original post attachment shows 2 ethernet switches. I believe these are from the Siemens Scalance range. They are managed switches that provide the ability to operate the network in a Ring configuration, and provide a level of redundancy if a failure occurred in any single connection from device to device. There's a section of the forum HERE where the system is discussed. My knowledge on these switches is limited, but from what I understand, one of the switches would act as a Master, and the other as a Slave. There would be 2 physical routes that the Master uses to communicate with the Slave. The first/primary route is from Master > PX > PX > PX > Slave. The secondary route is from Master > Backup Route > Slave. The Master will decide which route to take to ensure that communication to all PXs in maintained. I would assume that information is provided via the Scalance UIs that detail where the ring-break failure has actually occurred. Regards, |
