315-dp2 time base and set points lost

highvoltage Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Hello, first timer here I have a 315-dp2 plc with a memory card, we think we lost power, and there may have been a MRES and card removal by an employee which is our customer.....not sure, they denied it :P Anyway, ever since this incident, we had to manually re-enter all user setpoints but now it seeems our timebases may have defaulted back to a smaller frequency......for instance, the lube pump now cycles every second versus every 45 min's as originally setup. Does this theory sound accurate ? That we could lose just setpoints ans timer base info but not the main program ? How could we keep this from happening in the future ? We do not have any programming or viewing software here so I cannot look at the timers. Many thanks in advance and thanks for the forum.......awesome info here ! Michael Tucker

highvoltage Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	I don't have any software to login to the PLC.....does that matter ? Can it be done somehow in the WinCC or HMI computer here ? or will the HMI hold a good copy of the program for me to reload to the PLC ? thanks, Michael

Can it be done somehow in the WinCC or HMI computer here ? or will the HMI hold a good copy of the program for me to reload to the PLC ? thanks, Michael It doesnt matter whether you have PLC software or not. 1.Enter the Setpoints on HMI 2.Just you need to go online with PLC & Copy RAM to ROM. 3. This will stop the PLC for a while you need to switch back the PLC to RUN Mode again. Now PLC will store the Setpoints in case of Power Failure. You can upload the software from PLC .But the software will not have Comments & Symbols. It is also possible to store the Setpoints in HMI for that you need to write the Setpoints into Recipes. If you have backup of HMI you can create Recipes to store Setpoints.Then you can restore the Values from HMI to PLC. You dont need to Enter the Setpoints again & Again . dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 9/16/2024 Posts: 12282 Rating: (2683)	Hello highvoltage; The screenshot that Deep provided shows the Simatic Manager screen, which is the container for S7 PLC projects; the software required is Step 7, and it is the main programming software for the S7-300 and S7-400 PLCs. Now in a S7 PLC program, there are DataBlocks that are created to hold the data required to control the process. I belkieve the original programmer created the structure of a DB (or more than one) to hold the parameters for your process, including the time base settings. But the data values are written to these memory location probably through the HMI during commissioning and operation. If you lose power, the DB values will revert to the original structure values To make sure these values are saved in the permanent memory of the PLC, once all values are correctly set for the process, the Copy RAM to ROM operation is one way to go; it all depends on the model number and revision of the PLC and the type of memory card inserted in the CPU (RAM, EPROM or MMC). So you need someone with both the software and the knowledge of the system to help you out, it would seem. Even buying the software (it is not cheap) and the programming cable/interface will still leave yopu with a good learning curve. So look around for an integrator near you who could help out; a Siemens distributor nearby will have a list of people and enterprises with experiendce in these matters. If you were provided with a copy of the program with symbols and comments it will make the work much easier. Hopee this helps, Daniel Chartier

I have tons of Allen-Bradley PLC experience but no Siemens so I will have to have a helping hand on the phone I suspect but all looks brighter. Thanks for the suggestions on how to prevent this sort of thing in the future, I am sure it will pay off for us here. Great site and great folks, thanks again, Michael Tucker
