Hello KGI; Basically, there is none, besides the fact that both are serial communicationprotocols that are availablewith Siemens PLCs. Here you will find a basic pdf explaining the 3964(R) procedure, which was developped for the S5 family about 30 years ago (and can still be used on serial CPs of the S7 family): http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=3964(r)&source=web&cd=8&ved=0CFEQFjAH&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.atcontrol.pl%2F_inc%2Fgetfile.php%3Fidfile%3D586&ei=KyoCT821LIfs0gHspriJAg&usg=AFQjCNHJk6VuJO5yrOJdJ-ufp6evmMF4rw . Profibus DP is a more modern communication protocol, that uses a specialised ASIC chip (found in Profibus-DP CPs and in the integrated Profibus ports of the CPUs)to generate communication speeds up to 12 MB. You will find lots of information on Profibus.com, and here on the support pages from Siemens, for example this Technical Brochure: http://www.automation.siemens.com/w2/efiles/pcs7/pdf/76/prdbrief/kb_profibus_en.pdf Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
