ercag Posts: 32 Rating: (2)	Hi Everybody; 6ES7138-4DA04-0AB0 the modul which I have to use. with that encoder module and one encoder mounted to the damper (motorized valve). I have to measure the position of the damper.%20 open 40% open etc.I want to do this by writing a code in scl but I dont have any idea how to do that.It is the first time i will use that module.Is anybody can help? Thanks in advance.

You can have either a 24V or a 5V encoder, there are special counting modes for each, see the manual: SIMATIC ET 200S Technological Functions Now, when using a rotary valve shaft as a location for an incremental encoder, remember that most valve shafts of this type will turn only a quarter-turn between full open and full closed positions, so precision becomes an issue. If you have a 512 pulse/revolution encoder for example, you will pickup only 1/4 of these per opening (or closing)of the valve, so your calculations will be limited by the maximum number of pulses generated in a quarter-turn. You have to decide whether the application can live with this lower precision. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
