6SN1118-0DK21-0AA1 question--need help

Read my case for exchange information and I need help--here is Siemens specification:

6SN1118-0DK21-0AA1 SIMODRIVE 611 Digital High Performance, Closed-loop Control Plug-in Unit with Digital Setpoint Interface for FD or MSD control, 2-Axes for encoders with sin/cos 1 Vpp, NC Software required from 06.04.09

I have 840D PL (V.6.5.x) controlled m/c (Index C200) which use 13 this kind of 611D card (-0DK21-). Last night one of these card give me trouble

alarm 300006 Module number 17 has not been found on the drive bus. and there is red LED on this card. I have no same type of card in stock, using 6SN1118-0DM23-0AA1 and 6SN1118-0DM33-0AA1 to replace for test, those 2 cards both cannot fit for my system--there would be no more other alarm but showing drive 17 /18 need start up or cycle time error. My boss prepare to order control card.                      Now I have question hope to get help:    (for easy I define drive 17/18 as "A" and 19/20 as "B")                                                              

#1--I switched control card (same type -0DK21-) drive "A" to "B"  after original card from "A" (I think defective) pulled out left on the table for cooling down 3 hours. --Luck my system boot w/o error and m/c running until today . these 2 control all use 2x8A drive, only different is A card using P24 and BE1 on terminal X431--see my picture attached. but B not. My question is according to Siemens diagram in attached file , P24 is DC24V and BE1 is break output for motor#1, who can tell me , how can we control that output BE1 to trig K1 release brake? Is there some PLC interface signal in DB3x or somewhere ?

#2--please help to confirm 6SN1118-0DK23-0AA0 can be use to replace 6SN1118-0DK21-0AA1, I only need to connect 1st encoder. leave 2nd empty.

1. Brake logic i.e. output of X431:BI1 is controlled thru 611 drive. Whenever pulse enable command is applied to drive, in parallel with pulse command, relay is switched on inside drive & 24 V DC supply is applied to brake & brake releases. Whenever control senses & trips on fault, relay supply is cut off & brakes are applied immediately. Thus motor brake operation is controlled by drive. If user needs to control motor brake by PLC then a output relay is configured in PLC logic in parallel with axis enable commands. But in this case, motor brake application will not be directly controlled by drive & it will apply in some time delay. Because drive fault communication to CNC system & PLC action takes time which causes delay in brake application. So for vertical axis, it is generally controlled thru drive.

2. Yes you can use 6SN1118-0DK23-0AA0 in place of 6SN1118-0DK21-0AA1.

Thanks for quick response. the brake release system in my case is using direct from drive control card -0DK21-0AA1, BE1 on Ter X431. INDEX add one optical "relay"  3 Amp to meet brake magnet need. I checked --like you said when pules enable "663" ="1" brake will release . But this "663" is controlled by PLC output--not like some simple application just jump to "9".                                                                  This INDEX C200 840D Pl, is about 12 years old, and it is the 1st time we have 611D control card issue, even though I replaced E/R power and monitor module for it earlier this year

I only tested  -0DK21-control card  on the bench couple years ago. and did not notice this P24/BE1 function. if you know which Siemens manual has description for this , can you send link to me here or PM. as from the manual--I cut attached here , there is no instruction for that, only has example.               From our discussion I think --it may benefit other members for information of 611D control card compitiblity in the range of High standard and High performance --they will see -0DM23- or -0DM33- cannot fit system with 0DK21 (or 0DJ21, or 0DK23...)
