we have observed 5 boards equipped with the SIPROTEC 7SJ85 relay experiencing errors, and despite our efforts, we were unable to restore and configure it back.

I have a relay doing the same thing I'm using 7.50 firmware which is the highest version I can use on this particular relay because of the CPU version.  At first the relay was at least working for several hours before going into fall back mode, but now I see it is trying two times to load the firmware then goes into fallback mode after those two attempts.  This relay is a lab relay, and I am in a quiet office, and I notice that the power supply seems to be making a noise that I would not expect from a Siemens relay.  This is an older relay, and I have a feeling that the electrolytic capacitors are starting to fail in the power supply and therefore the power for the logic board is not clean and it is causing issues with the CPU and memory chips in the relay.

Of course, this is speculation / observation on my part, and I may be completely wrong.  I would really like to hear from one of the experts on their thoughts.  In my case I don't think it is worth fixing the relay since it is just a test one, but I would like to know why this is occurring as I concerned moving forward.
